How Many Kings

Last night I attended my first Christmas concert of the year. I went with my wife, Beth, and her two sisters. I didn’t know we were going until the middle of the day yesterday. Beth had this song she had heard last Christmas playing over and over in her mind. It was a song she had loved last year but hadn’t heard since.

She began searching for the name of the song and the group that sang it.  When she found that information she also learned that the band was having the kick-off concert for their Christmas tour last night in Franklin. To Beth this was more than mere coincidence. It was God giving her, and me and her sisters, a personal invitation to the concert.

The band is DOWNHERE and the song is “How Many Kings.” It’s a powerful song about Jesus stepping down from heaven and coming to earth for me and for you. Here is the chorus:

“How many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only one did that for me.”

I want to remember this Christmas that Jesus the king stepped down from his throne for me. I encourage you to remember that too and to let the words of this song play over and over in your mind. He did this for you!
